Unfortunatly, now we have to work on owr promotion peace, which I was to work, but there no ideas coming to my head what I could make amazing that my book would look interesting. I hope at some point the idea woould come to my head at any minute.

Artist Talk: Clive Hicks-Jenkins

Last week we had very interesting talk with Clive Hicks-Jenkins. It was most inspiring talks we every got in University, in my opinion.

Clive Hicks-Jenkins did not started his carrier when he was young, he did not do to college or University to do degree. He learned everything by himself. He did draw when he was little, but hearing from people saying that he’s going to be artist put him off from doing it and instead he was learning dancing and became a choreographer. “What I do now is the same ,painting is like a dance too, making lines with brush” After long thinking in his thirties he left his students and agents. Start working in castle as ticket seller and when there was no customers he would have his little book where he started drawing again. When finally he was found by a man who managed to brought him and his work to a galleries. Clive got also first commotions for book covers where he even does typography titles himself. The time when he changed into artist what to do what he do is the time father has died, his memories about his and his nightmares motivated and also changed his style of drawing. His style contains a lot of shading using soft pencil. He likes to try and experiment with different media, but most uses quash.

Now he does a lot of things: painting, animation, became a director for his father stories, working on puppets show, making a book of Hansel and Gretel horror version and also working on children version for shop.

My personally favourite was his new project Hansel and Gretel, which is not released yet, but we were able to see drawing of the book. I don’t really like scary thing, but I still loved every detail and there was funny things too and I’m really looking forward to see the finally book in shop.

Overall, it was very inspiring to see his art and detail work and also it gives an understanding and more confidence that is things not going to work out now, they will work out late, just for different people different time.

To come up with designs is getting harder, start to feel pressure of time and worries. Of course stress will never help anyone. Just need too really work hard. One of things that gave me happiness is realizing of trying to work things in my style. If I would just start that for begining it should be a bit more easier. I guess thats what it is about being your own style illustrator. Let be positive!

Visible Progess

I must admit I was feeling about down, because I was working… But I couldn’t see any progress that would feel like I’m moving with my project. Fortunatly this week that changed. I feel like I had done work: Ayu’s cover  is almost done, working smoothly on lyric book, know excatly what I’ll do for CD design, also started seriously on Cheeze’s Madeleine Love and Epik High’s Coffee for that I have few ideas. Also started woorking on Ayu’s tour poster ideas. Overall, feeling more motivated to work. It’s going to be great!

Keep going

Finished working on Ayumi’s Countdown cover and start to think maybe it will look good for final enough so soon you might see more sketges for lyric book and cd desing. For now to change a bit I decided to work on Ayu’s Rock’n’Roll Circus tour poster and analysing dresses that she wears in concert. Thinking to put them all together in one and make with circus features.
